Walking

I've recently had to have an operation which has slowed me down quite a bit, meaning I can't be as active as I usually would.

So I've been really getting into walking to keep myself moving. It's been awesome because I've rediscovered all of the amazing benefits of such simple movement.

I love that it's really portable, and doesn't really require any fancy equipment...just some decent trainers.

I've discovered that walking at a decent rate can burn almost as many calories as running the same distance at a regular pace....with less risk of injury.

It can help control blood sugar.... walking stops me feeling hungry and improves my energy levels for the rest of the day. It's been shown that small 15 minute bursts of walking throughout the day are as beneficial as a 45 minute session.

It improves circulation, I feel warmer throughout the day after a walk.

And not only do I feel better, I know that I'm reducing my chances of developing obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease and alzheimers.

So if you want to get some time out from everyday life, as well as improving your fitness and health..... take 15 minutes out of your day, brave the weather and go for a walk....you can even ask a friend to join you !
